In 1791, Napoleon did not permit to wear high heels. No one was allowed to wear high heeled shoes any more. He did this to show equality between the people. At that time, only the high class people wore high heeled shoes. Their appearance differentiated them from the poor ones. He banned this, in order to take a step towards maintaining equality among people. In 1860s, high heeled shoes came back in fashion. This was due to the invention of sewing machine. As a result, greater variety of shoes was now available; thus giving women more choice.

High heeled shoes were very famous till the nineteenth century. However, in the early twentieth century the demand for more comfortable shoes with flat soles increased. Today in the twenty first century, there is a huge variety of high heel mules available than ever before. Women have more options now and they can easily get the one according to their requirements.
